Macedon Ranges Young Writers Prize

Enter your short stories and poems into our Macedon Ranges Young WritersPrize, opening 23 October and closing on 25 November. The competition is designed for children from Grades 3 to 8 but Preps to Grade 2s may enter the Grades 3/4 section if they like and any number of words is acceptable.

Short Story Stories of any length below the maximum are welcome but we have given numbers as a guide. Overall we are looking for quality not quantity.

Up to Grades 3 & 4: From 50 to 600 words

Grades 5 & 6: From 100 to 1500 words

Grades 7 & 8: From 300 to 3000 words

Poem with no theme but use ‘Challenge’ as inspiration if you are searching for something to write about. Up to three entries are allowed per person.

Grades 3 & 4: Poems of up to 30 lines each

Grades 5 & 6: Poems of up to 50 lines each

Grades 7 & 8: Poems of up to 80 lines each

Please name your documents with title of your short story or poem and your name.

ELIGIBILITY:

Entrants must live, go to school or have some connection to the Macedon Ranges Shire or surrounds (Sunbury, Trentham, Daylesford, Toolern Vale, Melton, Wallan, Kilmore, Blackwoord, Metcalfe, Taradale). Please email if you would like to check your eligibility. Prizes need to be collected from Gisborne if you are a winner or runner-up.

Fill out the details in the entry form below and then send your short story and/or poem/s as (.docx or .pdf) to kbuttigieg@macedonrangeswriters.com

Please save the document with the title of your short story or poem, or the first poem if you are sending several. Please send the short stories as separate documents, poems can be sent in the same document. If you have any questions at all, please email us via the above address.
