I am always amazed by those people who are constantly upbeat. You know the ones. They’re energetic, constantly smiling, looking for the good in everything and they seem to cope better with difficulties than the rest of us. I know we can train ourselves to think positively but in general I believe those typically smiley and infectiously happy people are just born that way. I wish I was like that and didn’t sweat the small stuff so much.
I have a friend who is one of these amazingly upbeat people and her family is the same. They are such a joy to be around. Unfortunately, in the last few years this family have endured one of them having a serious illness. Why does hardship always seem to strike the most lovely people? It’s just heartbreaking. And yet, they haven’t let it get them down and have supported each other every step of the way. The family member with the illness is one of the most gorgeous people you will ever meet.
I found this poem I had written recently and it reminded me of her. I really wanted to share it and the essence of this amazing lady.
She cherishes life and has a sweet soul
She holds her hand out for others’ hands to hold
She speaks the tongues of angels old
And she loves with all her heart
She lives a life that others never dream
She grabs today and basks in yellows, blues and greens
She gives her life so much until it’s bursting at the seams
And she lives with every part of herself
She walks the road that’s been less travelled
She lets Fate’s unending ball unravel
She cuts the strings and lets it fall
She changes everything through smaller steps
She looks every person in the eye
She speaks the truth, she questions why
She gives, she loves, she walks forward and she smiles
She’s happy to be here
